The husband of Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey is facing assault charges for pulling a gun on Black Lives Matter protesters outside the couple’s home earlier this year.

David Lacey was charged in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday with three misdemeanor counts of assault with a firearm over the March 2 incident, Politico reported.

The charges were brought by the California attorney general’s office, which was investigating the matter to avoid conflict of interest issues in the DA’s office, according to The Los Angeles Times.

The chaotic encounter unfolded when some 50 demonstrators turned up to Laceys’ Granada Hills home for a predawn protest targeting the district attorney.

Melina Abdullah, who helped found the LA chapter of Black Lives Matter, said she and other protesters knocked at the front door to speak to the DA when her husband came out and “pulled a gun and pointed it at my chest.”

Video she posted on social media showed David Lacey holding a firearm in the doorway.

“Good morning. Are you going to shoot me?” Abdullah could be heard saying off-camera.

He responded: “I will shoot you. Get off my porch.”

Hours after the incident, Jackie Lacey held an emotional press conference where she apologized on behalf of her husband, who was an investigative auditor with the DA’s office until his 2016 retirement.

“His response was in fear, and now that he realizes what happened, he wanted me to say to the protesters, the person that he showed the gun to, that he was sorry, that he was profoundly sorry,” Lacey said, before also apologizing.

She also said she faced harassment, including death threats, throughout her tenure and during her reelection campaign.

The top prosecutor, who is black, has repeatedly clashed with Black Lives Matter protesters, who accuse her of being too protective of law enforcement and not prosecuting officers in fatal shootings.

She will face former San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón in the November general election.
